I had a conversation with a friend recently, about whether it is more heroic to do the right thing without hesitation, or to consider self-preservation, then do something for another in spite of it. Media has often portrayed heroes as fighters for justice, they always know the right thing to do from their point of view and do it unflinchingly. But that’s just an ideal, not reality, as humans we hesitate, think selfishly in a pinch, and try to cut corners. If you can be a good person despite those desires as an average person, that’s the most heroic thing you can do.
